Brittany Johnson

Lead Trainer

Brittany is a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer and has been involved with CrossFit since 2013. She found CrossFit during her sophomore year of college. After doing group classes for a few years and competing in local competitions, she knew she wanted to be involved with helping others make the same health and mindset shift that she had made. She believes that, “A gym is so much more than a place to throw weight around in; it’s community, accountability, milestones, resilience, confidence, integrity and being able to apply those character traits to life perseverance.”

Brittany comes to us from CrossFit Resurgens in Atlanta, GA where she has been coaching group classes and working with athletes for the past two years. Originally from Minnesota, Brittany and her husband Chance are returning to the Midwest! Besides her love for health and fitness, Brittany has a degree in Public Relations from Lee University; has her own photography business, and has three rescue dogs. When she’s not at the gym or taking pictures; she enjoys creating healthy recipes, camping and hiking with her husband and their dogs.

Helping others achieve goals, accomplish new things and being involved with a community of like-minded individuals are some of her favorite things about coaching.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7

Chance Johnson

Chance has been involved with the Crossfit community after watching the 2012 Crossfit Games. He was amazed by the functionality and strength of the athletes, so he sought out his local Box and began interning for the next 2 years. He got to see that Crossfit is not just about moving weight well, but rather, like minded people seeking to push themselves and others to succeed physically and more importantly in their everyday life. He says “I would rather an individual make an effort to change the direction of their life, than try to go faster or lift heavier. That’s why a Crossfit gym is so great, because no matter the ability of the individual, everyone has the capability to work hard in their own capacity. The community of the gym is there to encourage and walk with each other through the trials of the WOD and everyday life.”

Chance comes to us from Atlanta, Ga where he was studying for his 4 year Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Prior to that he worked for his four year Exercise Science Degree in Cleveland, TN. His primary focus while in school was Chiropractic Kinesiology where he received over 300 hours of instruction on the movement patterns of the body. Originally from Tennessee, Chance is trying his hand at the Minnesota winters with his wife Brittany who originally grew up in Minnesota. Other than fitness and wellness, he loves tinkering on cars and projects around the house that involve building or creating things as well as hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and spending time with his family.

Chances favorite part about coaching in the Crossfit community is seeing people make the step everyday towards their full potential while coming alongside others to help them see their own.

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

- Galatians 2:20

Raymond Smith-Byrd

Ray is a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer with 1 year of CrossFit experience. He found CrossFit after moving to Minnesota and experiencing the CrossFit Games on Netflix. He was encouraged to try out a few boxes in the Twin Cities area and came across CrossFit Twin Cities in September 2018. He has been a coach since May 2019.

Ray’s background in team sports, mainly football, influenced his decision to begin CrossFit for the high intensity workouts and the community that it builds. Ray’s philosophy is that physical activity makes us better physically and mentally. Ray says, “Coaching has become a passion of mine as I thrive off of helping others reach their goals and earn the results that they strive to see. Everything worth having is earned!”

Ray comes to us from Detroit, Michigan where he was born and raised. He attended the University of Michigan where he studied Industrial and Operations Engineering and graduated in April 2018. Outside of the gym, Ray is an R&D Engineer at General Mills where he designs the technical packaging for Nature Valley granola bars (and he brings some into the gym quite often)!
