Again, proof that CrossFit is the best system for overall athletic fitness.....NOT for training specialists.
I had the opportunity to spend two glorious days skiing at Lutsen
Mountains with my sons recently. I have to admit, I was a tad
apprehensive at the prospect. I hadn't downhill skied in fifteen
years. The last time I skied, I was nearly crippled for the following
three days. Talk about soreness...despite being in decent physical
shape, I could barely walk. Moving from a seated to standing position?
Forgetaboutit! Not without pulling myself up the wall!
This time, on the first day, we skied seven hours straight,
getting quite aggressive with some advanced technique and challenging
runs. I felt strong and confident despite my long hiatus from the
sport, pleased my aged body was keeping up with my mind, which kept
telling me I could do runs faster or more aggressively. By the end of
the day, I feared for the next morning, knowing I faced another full
day on the slopes. I feared the rebellion my body would serve up to
punish me for the day's thrashing.
Guess what? Not a single ounce of pain or stiffness the next
morning! I couldn't believe it. Day number two might be a good day
after all.
We skied another eight straight hours the second day. Surely I
was pushing my luck. After the skiing, we hiked in the woods and rocks
for three hours....plenty of juice left in the muscles. I
actually started to feel a bit guilty that I hadn't done a CrossFit
workout in five days....feeling like a bit of a slacker. I failed to
recognize the level of physical activity we had been putting in as a
"real" workout. It was too easy.
Again, no stiffness or soreness the next morning. We spent that
day....seven hours worth.....blazing hiking trails through the forest,
and scaling rock cliffs on Lake Superior's North Shore.
I can say CrossFit is THE factor that gave me the strength,
stamina, and ability to recover overnight, allowing me such an
excellent vacation. This trip, even at 41, I was better able to
perform and not have days of stiffness and pain following all this
activity........something I couldn't have imagined at 25.
Thanks again to you and Robbie for the excellent coaching, and
allowing me the opportunity to have adventures like this now, and
hopefully well into the future.

Now that I have participated in CrossFit since .........whenever the
open house was, I wanted to drop you a note and let you know my
thoughts on the program. I am thrilled and honored to be able to be
working out with such an amazing group of coaches and athletes. There
are days I walk in and think 'I'll never be able to do the WOD', but
then within 30 - 40 minutes I walk out feeling an incredible amount of
accomplishment and pride in myself. Then there are days I walk out
thinking, 'that really stunk and didn't go well'. I've learned when I
say, "I can't do that", what I really mean is "I can't do that -
YET!!!" I started out by not even being able to jog to the 1st stop
sign at the end of the street, and now a can make it to the 2nd fire
hydrant. (very very very slowly, but I can do it!) My log is a
fantastic tool to look back and see just how much I have improved. I've
been laughing because when I initially started it hurt to even lift a
body bar. Then I worked up to the 45lb bar, and most recently up to
65lbs. Sadly, I hate to admit this but last night the 65lb bar even
felt a little 'light'. Am I crazy or what!! Okay - I guess that's about
it. I am just really proud of how far I've come, and feel I owe it to
you and your staff. Thanks for allowing everyone an opportunity to
challenge themselves to do this. I'd give you a hug but it's an email!!
